01 / overview
ada is the freight monitoring system i built as a software developer at GuTeS SET in vienna. it automates monitoring work that used to be done by hand: tour data, statuses and freight data come in on their own, and dispatchers work from one board that updates in real time.
the heart of it is the dispatch week. trucks run down the side, days across the top, and every tour is a bar coloured by its status. tours that don’t have a truck yet wait in a list underneath and get dispatched by dragging them onto a truck or a day.
the real screens run on company data, so the board above is a recreation with made-up trucks and tours. the layout, the colours and the interactions follow the real thing.
02 / what it does
- 01
drag to dispatch
drop an unassigned tour onto a truck or a day to start dispatching it. tours whose customer order hasn’t been validated yet are stopped before they get that far.
- 02
status at a glance
loaded, delivered, closed, cancelled and part-delivered tours each get their own colour, and the colours can be changed in the settings.
- 03
overlaps stay readable
when two tours on the same truck overlap in time, they stack inside the row instead of hiding each other.
- 04
one search for everything
a single search box looks through tour numbers, customer and purchase orders, company names, cities, loading references and licence plates.
- 05
the right-click menu
split a tour, change its status, email the customer or the carrier, add extra costs, swap the truck, post it to a freight exchange or cancel it. dragging one tour onto another merges them.
- 06
freight exchanges and maps
TimoCom and Teleroute are connected through their APIs, and routes and distances are calculated and drawn with Mapbox.
03 / how it’s built
- React
- TypeScript
- WebSockets
- PHP
- SQL
- Mapbox
- Docker
- Dolibarr
react and typescript on the front end, with live updates over websockets. i also customised and extended Dolibarr, the company’s ERP/CRM, so orders, companies and tours fit the way the team works.
outside the app i looked after the servers: linux, docker, node.js and php deployments, and ssl.
